IB to engage 15,000 workers with expansion project

The Chief Operating Officer, International Breweries Plc, Ilesa, Chief Carlos Gomes, has said the company’s expansion project will create jobs for no fewer than 15,000 people.

Gomes said this in an exclusive interview with our correspondent at Esa Odo on Thursday after he was installed the Babalaje of Esa Odo by the monarch of the town, Oba Julius Adeniran, during the 2013 Esa Odo Day celebration.

He said the brewery had been engaging in corporate social responsibility for a long time, while giving the assurance that it would continue in that regard as long as it remained in business.

Gomes said, “The multiplier effect of the expansion project of the brewery will be huge; we will be able to create jobs for about 15,000 people. This number will be those who will work indirectly for the company.

“They include transporters, suppliers and other categories of workers. We just signed a memorandum of understanding with the state government on the brewery expansion. We are the biggest tax payer in Osun State and we will continue to partner with the government to develop the state.

“We have started placing orders for the equipment we will need, and the first phase of the expansion project will soon be completed.”

The COO thanked customers of the company for their patronage, adding that the firm would not stop satisfying them.

The Chairman, Esa Odo Steering Committee, Chief Josiah Ajayi, also lauded the company, while urging other corporate bodies to emulate the good gesture of the IB Plc.

Ajayi called on the state government to come to the aid of Esa Odo people by rehabilitating the water scheme and the road linking the community with Esa Oke in order to make goods and human transportation less difficult.
