Why UNN is on two weeks break

The Management of University of Nigeria Nsukka UNN on Monday sent its students packing on a 2 weeks break they call it TWO-WEEK MID SEMESTER BREAK which is unusual. Below is how the institution published the memo:

This is to bring to the notice of all students and the entire University of Nigeria Nsukka Community, that the institution shall proceed on a TWO-WEEK MID SEMESTER BREAK with immediate effect.

Consequently, all academic activities on the campuses are hereby suspended for the period.

Students are by this notice directed to vacate their hostels within the next 24 HOURS, ie not later than 6pm on TUESDAY, JUNE 02, 2015.

We went to UNN to find out what caused the sudden break and students we spoke has this to say:

The school has been experiencing a breakdown in power (electricity) for sometime now and we held a peaceful protest to get the school management to do something about it, after the protest we recieved the memo (above), we hope they get to work on it within this period.
