Tips to Make the Choice After High School: Work or College?

School is all about to end and after that a time comes one of the most important choices of your life, probably the first very important one: to keep studying or to start working? It i€™s not something that you can answer to in a light-hearted way: you have to think about it and ponder your choice over.

If you are looking for some help, here are some tips to help you find the right answer to the questions.

  • First of all, be true to yourself whether you like to study or not . Forget about what your parents say and expect from you. What really matters is that you make a choice that makes you happy and satisfies your actual attitude and preferences. Unless you have a dream career that involves going to college, consider that if studying hasn’t been your piece of cake you should not follow that path.

  • If you like to study, but you haven’t chosen a field to dedicate your life to then you should ask yourself this question: what’s the job market asking for? The best way to find out is to check out newspapers, job sites and employment ads : which are the most popular ones? Are those positions you would enjoy dedicating your life to on the long run? do they require college degrees? If you’re going to invest your time and energy in studying you have to make sure that you’ll find a good payed job afterwards.

  • Also, if you hav e a dream job, ask yourself whether a degree is necessary to follow that dream or if you can work your way through it. In many professions this is done by becoming an apprentice and learning from someone who already does that job. If that €™ s the case, it’s better to start working straight away, so that it will €œsave your time€ and you will be able to start doing the job you like earlier.

  • Consider also the option of a part time degree , which would allow you to both study and work at the same time. It could be a great solution that could help you understand what you really want without wasting time on deciding. At some point, you can choose to study full time, or quit the latter and focus on your employment. Either way it’s also a great way to finance your college studies while acquiring work experience which is very important.

  • Another option which is many times not even considered is to pack your bags and travel. Learning about different cultures can also help you clear up your mind about your future, will broaden your horizons and maybe even give you the business idea of your life!

  • And speaking of business, if you have something great to offer to your community, why not become an entrepreneur? You might think that the path is long and rocky, but it might just give you the success you’ve been yearning for. Take it from some of the most important entrepreneurs in the past years: it’s the chance of a lifetime. Just think that nowadays you don’t even need to have a physical office in order you have a business; all you really need is a great idea, a website and lots of dedication.

Remember that making a choice between college or working is not permanent and it doesn,t have an expiry date. Although the sooner the better you can start following your dream at any point, all you need is to be passionate about it.
