The benchmark index of equities rose further on the Nigerian Stock Exchange yesterday, as investment on stocks with good earnings lifted the indicator.
The All Share Index gained 0.55 per cent to close at 38,961.60 points, compared to the increase of 0.02 per cent recorded the preceding day to close at 38,747.51 points.
Market capitalisation appreciated N68bn to close at N12.461trn, higher than the increase of N3bn recorded the preceding day to close at N12.393trn.
On the sectorial indices, the NSE 30-Index increased 0.41 per cent to close at 1,797.21 points, but the Banking Index lost 0.46 per cent to close at 405.47 points.
The Insurance Index gained 1.20 per cent to close at 147.22 points, but the Consumer Goods Index dropped 0.005 per cent to close at 1,093.08 points.
The Oil and Gas Index appreciated 0.43 per cent to close at 303.91 points, while the Lotus Islamic Index gained 0.19 per cent to close at 2,744.70 points.
The Industrial Index was up 2.93 per cent to close at 2,396.17 points, while the Alternative Securities Market remained flat.
Union Dicon Salt Plc led the gainer’s table with 69 kobo or 10.10 per cent to close at N7.52 per share, while Wapco Plc appreciated N5.00 or 4.72 per cent to close at N111.00 per share.
Mansard Insurance Plc was up 10 kobo or 4.37 per cent to close at N2.39 per share, while Sterling Bank Plc added nine kobo or 4.11 per cent to close at N2.28 per share.
Nigerian Breweries Plc rose N5.86 or 3.64 per cent to close at N167.00 per share.
Conversely, Costain Plc dropped 10 kobo or 8.85 per cent to close at N1.03 per share, while Flour Mill Plc shed N6.72 or 7.32 per cent to close at N85.08 per share.
Transcorp Plc was down 23 kobo or 5.48 per cent to close at N3.97 per share, while Trans Express Plc depreciated six kobo or 4.84 per cent to close at N1.18 per share.
E Traszact Plc fell 13 kobo or 4.81 per cent to close at N2.57 per share.
A total of 701.3 million shares valued at N3.30bn were exchanged in 5,393 deals.
