The Secretary/Acting Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Mr. Victor Muruako, has pledged to reposition the commission in line with its mandate to enthrone accountability in public finance.
A statement by the commission quoted Muruako as saying this during his inaugural meeting with the staff members at its headquarters.
He unveiled a tripod agenda, which entailed dedication to duty, staff welfare and a keen sense of history.
Muruako urged all the staff members to be fully conversant with the provisions of the Act as this would be like a manifesto to guide their performance in a bid to enthrone accountability and transparency in public finance among the government’s ministries, departments and agencies.
Although he promised an open-door administration, he said he would not condone sloth, indiscipline and lackadaisical attitude to work.
The statement by the Principal Information Officer, Mr. Adedayo Jagun, quoted the FRC boss as appealing to the workers to have a ‘keen sense of history’, adding that the late anti-apartheid icon, Nelson Mandela, was being celebrated today because of his selfless service to humanity.
“Mandela is not by any estimation a rich man but he left a befitting legacy which is now being applauded the world over,” he added.
He solicited the cooperation of all the workers to give the commission a new lease of life, promising that his administration would not be influenced by ethnic, religious or any other sectional consideration in the task ahead.
He promised to accord high priority to the training and welfare of workers, adding that nobody would be discriminated against in the new scheme of things.
